UC Davis captive breeding program attempts to save Delta smelt
The Delta smelt captive-breeding program at UC Davis' Fish Conservation and Culture Laboratory will begin a species rescue program in case the fish goes extinct in the wild. The lab has been breeding the smelt for 15 years for breeding purposes, but the decision to work with the state and find funding for a rescue program was made in recent weeks.
