Let us catch you up on changes in the libraries over this past summer:

There is a new printing and scanning system in all the libraries, replacing traditional photocopiers with BookScan stations.  It requires you to have funds available on your Cal 1 Card.  Materials can be printed on paper, or scanned directly to a flash drive (available in the Moffitt Library Copy Center) at a much lower cost.

As previously announced, existing Equitrac copy cards expired August 31. Update: Refunds of unused value on expired Equitrac copy cards for individuals (UCB students, staff, faculty and non-UC guests), and those purchased with departmental funds, are available through September 30, 2011.

There is now only one Melvyl catalog.  The system formerly known as "Next Generation Melvyl Pilot" has replaced the older version as the catalog of the ten UC campus libraries.

The search box on the library homepage now offers a choice of options: OskiCat, Melvyl, E-Journal Titles, Google Books, Google Scholar, and a search of our web pages.

Proxy server instructions have been updated to reflect new versions of the major web browsers.

Update: Major maintenance work on the Doe Library roof and gutters will continue into the fall semester, causing the Art History/Classics Library to be closed until Thursday October 13, and the Heyns and Rosberg Reading Rooms to be closed until Monday November 14.

The Engineering Library reopened August 25 after major renovations.

The Law Library has moved to new quarters in the Boalt Hall South Addition.

The Earth Sciences and Map Library has a new website.

The Library Bookstore closed on June 30, but special booksale events will continue.

"Social Media" was the theme of this summer's recommended reading list.

Research databases branded ProQuest, Chadwyck-Healey, and Illumina, plus the RefWorks citation management tool, will be down for maintenance from 7pm on Saturday August 20 through 7am on Sunday August 21, 2011.

Instructions for using the library proxy server to connect to journal article databases and other licensed electronic resources have been updated for new browser versions such as Firefox 5 and Google Chrome 12.  Instructions for major Macintosh browsers have been updated for OSX 10.7 ("Lion").

We have also added instructions for Windows Internet Explorer 9, though we do not recommend using this version of IE for this purpose because of possible compatibility issues with some database systems and websites.
