Downtime completed: As of 11am on Friday September 9, the following are once again available after last night's maintenance work and this morning's hardware problem:
Update: The library has arranged for refunds of unused value on expired Equitrac copy cards to be available through September 30, 2011.
This includes cards for individuals (UCB students, staff, faculty and non-UC guests) and those purchased with departmental funds.
To request a refund, bring the card to the Library Business Services office, 110 Doe Library (open Monday-Friday 9am-noon and 1-5pm). You may also make an appointment by sending email to printcopy[at]lists.berkeley.edu.
Some parts of the library website will be down for maintenance from midnight Friday, September 2, through as late as 3am Saturday:
Update: The Heyns (East) Reading Room and Rosberg Reading Room reopened on Monday November 15, ahead of schedule. These rooms are located on the second floor of Doe Library (PDF floorplan)
This closure is necessary because of the extent of work needed to replace fire sprinkler pipes as part of a major maintenance project on the 100-year-old building, and the fragility of the plaster ceiling.
These rooms house the current periodicals (magazines and journals) for Doe and Moffitt Libraries. During the closure period:
Online versions of many periodical titles are available on public computers in the Reference Hall (between the North and Heyns Reading Rooms) and in Room 190 (next to the building's North Entrance).
Other study spaces such as the North Reading Room, Gardner (Main) Stacks, and Moffitt Library will not be affected by this closure.
The UC Berkeley libraries have a new system for making copies of printed materials, and for printing from our public computers. It replaces traditional photocopiers with BookScan stations. Materials can be printed on paper, or scanned directly to a flash drive (available in the Moffitt Library Copy Center) at a much lower cost.
For payment, the new system requires a Cal 1 Card with funds available in its debit account. These cards are issued to UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff members. Departmental cards are also available.
Visitors can request a Cal 1 Guest Card from the Moffitt Library Copy Center or from a public service desk in a library.
The new system does not accept coins or bills. Only the Moffitt Library Copy Center can accept alternate forms of payment.
As previously announced, Equitrac cards used with the former system expired on August 31, 2011.
Update: Refunds of unused value on expired Equitrac copy cards for individuals (UCB students, staff, faculty and non-UC guests), and those purchased with departmental funds, are available through September 30, 2011.
