Bancroft librarian Randal Brandt's website lists over 1200 mystery novels set in the Bay Area.
The University of California, Berkeley's library collection now numbers over 10 million volumes. University Librarian Thomas Leonard commented that "students and faculty expect the Library to take them as far as their curiosity reaches, and collections that spin out to 10 million volumes show that we are up to the challenge. An equal marvel is that we have a library staff who work in all the disciplines and languages required to assemble this knowledge."
Each year, the Association of Research Libraries ranks North American educational institutions, using quantitative measures of library collections, expenditures, support, and staffing. In 2005, the UC Berkeley Library ranks the first among all public universities in the United States, and fourth among all U.S. and Canadian universities.
The Newspapers & Microforms Room is closed through January 29, while its collections, staff, and services are permanently relocated from 150 Doe Annex to 40 Doe Library (also known as the Doe Core). More than 500 microform cabinets are being moved and rearranged as part of this project. We will restore service as soon as possible, but materials will not be accessible for most of this period.
The Institute of Industrial Relations Library is closed for a major remodel through Summer 2006. Limited services will be available starting on January 9.
