Thanks to funding provided by the Chancellor and Provost, Saturday hours at our subject specialty libraries will be restored to Spring 2009 levels. This will occur in phases to give libraries time to hire and train new students to work on Saturdays.
These science libraries will reopen by mid-November:
» Bioscience and Natural Resources (Nov. 14: 1-5)
» Chemistry (Nov. 7: 1-5)
» Engineering (Oct. 31: 10-5)
» Public Health (Oct. 24: 12-5)
The following science libraries have been closed in past semesters and will continue to be closed weekends due to building security issues:
» Earth Sciences and Map
» Mathematics Statistics
» Optometry
» Physics-Astronomy
Subject specialty libraries in the arts, humanities, and social sciences will also be reopening on Saturdays. Watch the What's New in the Library blog and Library Hours page for updates.
Our popular science IM reference service will be unavailable tomorrow, Friday, October 23. Normal hours will be restored next week: Monday-Friday 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00.
The collaborative 24/7 Ask a Librarian service will still be available. Ask a Librarian is a chat reference service that connects you to a librarian and emails you a transcript of your chat so you can reference it later.
Open Access (OA) is a growing international movement that uses the Internet to throw open the locked doors that once hid knowledge.
Based on the principle that all research should be freely accessible online, immediately after publication, it encourages the unrestricted sharing of research results with everyone, everywhere, for the advancement and enjoyment of science and society.
Open Access Week, October 19-23, includes several events here at Berkeley:
