I had the same thought about "using a library", physical location vs services. But I realized that many people using library provided web/digital services.... might not realize that those services are provided by the library! So it might be difficult to get valid results for what we want.

When I analyzed last year's UCUES
results (2006), undergraduates' reported
use of libraries for both research and
other purposes was higher than their
2007 reported use.

"Use of campus libraries for research". I imagine that students are answering this if they mean "i've gone to a library physical space for research". I wonder what kind of question we could add that would get at use of library licensed resources or other online (reference?) services.
