Library mission redux

Two Paul Courant comments about university scholarship are circling [paraphrased here]:

Universities are about scholarship and publication.

Scholarship is research.

Publication is any form of going public...teaching is the public airing of ideas...so is publishing for the larger world to see / read / hear.

Libraries are [places? collectons? methods?ways?] for scholars to share and learn from each other across space and time.
