From the good folks at UCSF:
The Fall 2008 Assembly website is now available: http://lauc2008fallassembly.wordpress.com
Note especially the preliminary agenda which includes links to information about the speakers:
Even if you are just taking BART, Muni or driving, please "register" by e-mailing Josephine Tan (see the "registration" tab on the site) so they know how many people to expect.
If you are taking BART, disembark at Embarcadero Station (well, any of the downtown stations). Under "Directions and Transportation", the directions "From the Muni turnstile" will get you straight to UCSF. It's a separate $1.50 fare though you can get 25 cents (25!) off each way, see: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/transfers.htm#bartembarcadero
(okay, so I'm a transit geek)
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Every year, the University of Maryland Center for Intellectual Property (CIP) offers a copyright conference. I was fortunate to attend last May for the first time and though I’m still pretty mystified by concepts like fair use, orphan works and the Section 108 study group, I can now at least fake my way through a conversation about them. A lot of the conference material is available online at the symposium archives.
Some standouts from the conference were the keynote by James Boyle of Duke. Among other things, he’s one of the directors of the Center for the Study of the Public Domain. There’s lots of cool stuff on that site including a must-read comic book that explores the impact of intellectual property on creativity (specifically documentary film making). Also cool was the presentation by Patricia Aufderheide of the Center for Social Media at American University. They’ve produced a guide called Recut, Reframe, Recycle.
My take away from the conference:
Many thanks to the 81 LAUC-B members who completed the survey last summer. The report has been broken up into two parts, the first containing an overview, recommendations of the task force, and a copy of the survey instrument, and the second containing analysis of the survey responses.
