Progress report on Wednesday, July 2: access to the Blackwell journal content on the Wiley InterScience platform seems to be available now. However, if you notice any problems or you're unable to gain access to the full content of a UC-licensed electronic journal, please contact a reference librarian or notify the CDL.
At this time, the links are not redirecting properly but are instead defaulting to the Wiley InterScience home page. The vendor expects to have this problem resolved within a few days.
However, a workaround has been installed in Uc-eLinks so that the links in the UC-eLinks menus should be working correctly. This workaround has been applied to the links within article databases and the E-journals A-Z database.
Progress report on Monday, June 30: the migration of the Blackwell-Synergy electronic journals to the Wiley InterScience platform that was scheduled for last weekend did not go according to plan. At this time, the UC-licensed Blackwell journal content is not accessible on Wiley InterScience, and UC users are being prompted to purchase the articles. The vendor has been contacted with a request to enable full-text access to these journals.
In addition, the links to the electronic journals that were formerly available on Blackwell-Synergy are redirecting to the Wiley InterScience home page rather than directly to the individuals journals. The Wiley technical support staff has been contacted about this problem as well.
The original message: in preparation for the migration of Blackwell-Synergy electronic journal content onto the Wiley InterScience platform, both vendors will be shutting down during the upcoming weekend. After the migration is completed, Blackwell Synergy will no longer be available.
The scheduled downtime is as follows:
June 27 at 6 pm: Blackwell Synergy closes down and the content will no longer be available on that platform.
June 28 at 2 am: Wiley InterScience goes offline temporarily to migrate the Blackwell content to the Wiley platform.
June 29 at 6 pm: Wiley InterScience comes back online.
Zotero, the free Firefox extension that enables users to collect, manage, and cite their research sources, is now available through the Mozilla Firefox browser that is now installed on most Library public PCs. Unlike other bibliography managers, Zotero has additional capabilities for multimedia and web resources.
For example, Zotero has the ability to take a snapshot of a page, save a copy as it currently exists, and archive it. Zotero can also save links in "your library" and return to the site.
To learn how to use Zotero and get help troubleshooting problems:
